3 (more) reasons to connect with us
As we wave goodbye to summer, Camarillo Health Care District has a few end-of-summer activities to remind you about and a few new opportunities to pencil in on your calendar.
1. Join us for 'Living Well, Caring Well'
We're pleased to host the quarterly "Living Well, Caring Well" one-stop-shop for people living with dementia-related disease and their caregivers on our campus, 3639 E. Las Posas Road in Camarillo, for the second year. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 6 and no prior registration required. Just stop in!
The event, presented by Dementia Friendly Ventura County, will feature industry professionals you can speak to, easy-to-navigate resources and you can learn about services designed for you. Among the industries to be represented are adult day centers, Adult Protective Services, the Alzheimer's Association, Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy, in-home care, legal and advanced planning, Long-Term Care Ombudsman, neurology and public benefits, including Medical, Cal Fresh and In-Home Supportive Services.
For more information, email lois.vcaaa@ventura.org or call 805-477-7300.
2. Catch up on our Elder Legal series
Since April, we have hosted a monthly series at Camarillo Public Library called "Elder Legal Answers Your Questions On..." The series has featured talks by experts on what to know when hiring a caregiver privately, addressing elder abuse, fraud and financial abuse, and what you need to know about nursing homes. If you missed any of those talks, we have video recordings on our website that we highly recommend you watch. These one-hour talks are super-informative. You'll want to take notes!
If you are free at lunchtime, noon to 1 p.m. on Sept. 18, the topic is "Does My Parent Have Dementia? Understanding Declining Capacity and Conservatorship." Please register in advance by calling 805-388-1952.
3. JOIN US FOR FAMILY & FRIENDS NIGHT - VIRTUAL REALITY
We're excited to announce that our award-winning "Adventures in VR" classes will be offered in the evening, so you can plan a Family & Friends Night out. We're officially announcing this for the first time here! So, be the first to sign up while seats are still available. We can accommodate up to seven people per night. Participants must be 13 and older.
Choose to explore the natural world using virtual reality. Interact with 20 different animals, including dinosaurs, zebra, tigers, elephants or find yourself meditating in nature. Make in rain, release butterflies around you, make trees or rocks crop up around you as you navigate the land. Or choose to go underwater as a virtual scuba diver. Swim with dolphins, sea turtles, whales, sharks and sea lions while learning all about them and their habitat.
In this introductory class, we provide the equipment and show you how to use it. It's easy and fun! And we have two staff members there to help you.
Class dates and times are 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, Friday, Oct. 6, Monday, Oct. 30 and Wednesday, Nov. 8. It costs $5. Non-District residents add $4. (Oct. 30 participants dress up in your Halloween costume!)
Call 805-388-1952 to register. Bring your family, neighbor, best friend, partner or colleague.
