VENTURA COUNTY, Calif., October 20, 2015 – The California Special Districts Association (CSDA), during the association’s Annual Conference and Exhibitor Showcase, awarded the Camarillo Health Care District (District) with the Innovative Program of the Year Award for a small district for the Building Hope Adult Day Center (Center) which was honored as a leader of pivotal change to the service model, philosophy, and delivery of adult day services.

In addition to doubling the size of the Center, the District received this award because it adopted a “person-centered” philosophy of care which includes utilizing important technologies to strengthen and maximize each client’s abilities daily. Because of this program, family caregivers are reaping significant benefit from the respite this day service provides. Additionally, family caregivers remark that both they and their loved ones, have seen a decrease in self-reported depression and isolation, and see a marked improvement in mood and personality.

Senator William Monning and Assembly Member Kansen Chu were in attendance to support the honorees.

The criteria for this award includes originality of program, tangible and positive results produced and a documented decrease in district costs or a demonstrated improvement in the district’s quality of service without significantly increasing costs.

The California Special Districts Association was formed in 1969 to promote good governance and improve core local services through professional development, advocacy and other services for all types of independent special districts.
